It was only a matter of time before the comments I write for these strips would overwhelm the comic proper.
This is that time. I have so much to tell you about Thomas Dolby and what his music means to me that I had to launch a new section on THIS IS ME: Music & Me. It tells the story of how I got to know Mr. Dolby's Music and gives you an overview of his discography.
Chances are you might want to listen to some of his music for yourself; I hear there are still record stores out there, somewhere.
It's probably obvious that drawing this strip was both fun and troublesome. Researching the many different looks of Mr. Dolby wasn't easy – for the times where he published "Aliens Ate My Buick" and "Astronauts & Heretics" I had to rely on the promotional photographs of the album artwork.
None of these drawings are straight copies off of any photographs. Instead, I spent considerable effort in identifying Mr. Dolby's salient head shapes so I could portray them reasonably well.
His current on-stage appearance was probably the most fun to draw – lots of reference photos to look at and an outfit which wouldn't look out of place in a steampunk manga.
