This actually happened, including all the stages described in the strip. There probably is a lesson in these panels, but I'm sitting too close to see it.
Edit: Apparently a lot of people can't laugh about this joke since that's the way they act as well: First expect the absolute worst, then talk yourself down until you're able to deal with the problem rationally. Trust me, instinctive fatalism is funny.
This strip was unexpectedly hard work, hence it's two days late. Inking and shading took twice as long as usual, even after simplifying things considerably.
